President Kagame Receives Four New Ambassadors
On September 8, 2025, President Paul Kagame received letters of credence from four newly accredited ambassadors to Rwanda: the envoys of Denmark, Brazil, France, and Egypt.
For the first time, Denmark and Brazil have established permanent representation in Kigali. Ambassador Casper Stenger Jensen becomes Denmark’s first resident envoy to Rwanda, following the opening of the Danish Embassy in Kigali in August 2025.
Denmark has a limited diplomatic presence on the African continent, with just over a dozen embassies, making the new mission in Rwanda a significant step.
Ambassador Jensen emphasized Denmark’s commitment to strengthening ties with Rwanda, particularly in investment and trade.
“One of my key priorities will be to explore ways to further enhance investment and business relations between our two countries,” he said.
Rwanda and Denmark already enjoy a longstanding partnership, with cooperation agreements in areas such as climate change and environmental protection most notably a bilateral accord signed on January 21, 2024. The two countries also collaborate on issues related to refugee support, political cooperation, and justice.
Denmark has in the past extradited genocide suspects to Rwanda, including Emmanuel Dushimiyimana in 2014 and Wenceslas Twagirayezu in 2018, reflecting the trust and collaboration between the two nations in pursuing justice for the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The newly accredited ambassadors pledged to work towards advancing the shared interests of their respective countries and Rwanda.
