President Kagame Received World Bank Regional Leadership for Talks on Strengthening Cooperation
President Paul Kagame on Wednesday received a delegation from the World Bank led by Ndiamé Diop, the Regional Director for Central and Southern Africa, for discussions focused on expanding the Bank’s support to Rwanda’s development agenda.
The meeting, held at Village Urugwiro on November 19, 2025, was also attended by Francis Gatare, Senior Advisor in the Office of the President, and Yusuf Murangwa, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning.
The World Bank remains one of Rwanda’s key development partners, supporting projects in areas such as environmental protection, private sector development, and infrastructure expansion.
In recent years, Rwanda and the Bank have signed several financing agreements, including 355 billion Rwandan francs dedicated to promoting climate-resilient private investment, signed in December 2024.
Between March and September 2025, Rwanda and the World Bank have been implementing six major projects covering urban transport improvement, refugee and host community support, disaster preparedness, and environmental conservation.
Altogether, the Bank plans to provide Rwanda with US$531.81 million (approximately 763.3 billion Rwandan francs) in financing for these initiatives, pending approval by its Board of Directors.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership between Rwanda and the World Bank and highlighted shared commitment to advancing sustainable development and improving the well-being of Rwandans.
