President Yoweri Museveni, while campaigning in Bukwo District, extended condolences to victims of a deadly landslide and pledged continued government support. He highlighted NRM’s 40-year achievements in peace, infrastructure, and wealth creation, urging citizens to join programs like NAADS, Operation Wealth Creation, and PDM to boost household income and ensure sustainable mountain land use.

Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has extended his condolences to the people of Bukwo District following the recent landslide that claimed several lives. Speaking during a campaign rally in Bukwo, the President said he has already sent initial government support to the affected families and promised that more assistance will follow.

Museveni used the visitpart of his ongoing re-election campaign tourto reflect on how the growing population in mountainous areas has increased vulnerability to disasters. “When the population was small, the mountain was safe,” he said, urging residents to adopt responsible land use practices. He noted that while agriculture remains vital, tourism presents another major opportunity for the region’s development. He pledged that after the elections, the government would engage local leaders in designing a clear and sustainable plan for coexisting with the mountain environment.

During his address, Museveni also reminded Bukwo residents of the seven key achievements of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) over the last 40 years. He cited peace as the most critical success achieved, he said, through patriotism and love for Uganda and Africa. He listed development as the second, highlighting progress in roads, electricity, telephone networks, piped water, and the ongoing railway expansion.

The President further emphasized individual wealth creation, calling on citizens to embrace economic empowerment programs such as NAADS, Operation Wealth Creation, and the Parish Development Model (PDM). According to Museveni, these initiatives are designed to ensure that every household actively participates in the national money economy.

The campaign event drew thousands of supporters dressed in NRM yellow, cheering as Museveni addressed them against the scenic backdrop of Bukwo’s highlands. Photos shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account showed large crowds, newly constructed roads, and lively scenes from the rallysymbolizing both political enthusiasm and the government’s development agenda.
