Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed the death of Muhammadu Buhari, who served twice as the country’s president. Buhari passed away on Sunday, 13 July 2025, at the age of 82, in London, United Kingdom, where he had been receiving medical treatment for weeks.


President Tinubu immediately directed the Vice President to travel to the UK to accompany Buhari’s body back home.

Buhari defeated the incumbent president in the 2015 election and led Nigeria through severe economic challenges and a difficult fight against terrorism.

Muhammadu Buhari (17 December 1942 – 13 July 2025) was a Nigerian politician who served as the Ptesident Of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023. A Major General in the Nigerian Army, he was also Nigeria’s military head of state from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985
