The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached alarming levels, with the Gaza Ministry of Health reporting that at least 154 people among them 89 children have died as a result of severe malnutrition, most of these deaths occurring in recent weeks, according to Al Jazeera.

This sharp increase in hunger-related deaths comes amid a dire shortage of food and medical supplies. The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed that urgent emergency measures are being put in place to combat the worsening starvation crisis.

“This is extremely serious,” said Marina Adrianopoli, WHO’s Head of Nutrition Programs. “All essential supplies for treating severe malnutrition and associated health complications are nearly depleted.”

Food scarcity worsened dramatically in June and July, and harrowing images of starving children especially infants and those with pre-existing health conditions have shocked the international community. Health experts warn that these vulnerable children are facing the highest risk of death.

In a bid to curb the escalating health crisis, the Gaza Ministry of Health issued an urgent appeal asking citizens to help protect six medical supply trucks expected to enter Gaza on Thursday under the coordination of the WHO.

Community members and family representatives were urged to cooperate and help safeguard the safe delivery of food and medicine to prevent any disruptions in this critical humanitarian operation.
