Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz has reportedly fled the country with his family as violent protests erupt following a disputed election. The Bongo Flava artist, once a strong supporter of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, deleted campaign-related posts from his social media but still faced backlash from angry fans who accused him of siding with the ruling party.

Tanzanian music icon Diamond Platnumz has reportedly fled the country with his family amid violent protests following the country’s disputed presidential election. The chaos erupted after the National Electoral Commission disqualified several opposition leaders, including Tundu Lissu of the Chadema party, on charges widely seen as politically motivated. With the main challengers removed, President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s victory became almost certain  a move that has triggered anger and nationwide unrest.

Once hailed as Tanzania’s biggest cultural export, Diamond Platnumz now finds himself at the center of public outrage. The artist, who had publicly supported President Hassan and the ruling CCM Party during her re-election campaign, recently deleted all posts endorsing her from his social media platforms after facing backlash. However, this gesture did little to calm the anger of protesters, who accused him of siding with a government they believe manipulated the vote. Reports indicate that demonstrators targeted properties associated with the artist and issued threats against him and his family.

Sources close to his management told Ukwelitimes that Diamond, along with his mother, relatives, and a 24-member team, secretly departed through Tanga Airport to avoid possible attacks as protests intensified across the country. The move came amid widespread violence and the government’s heavy-handed response, which included a nationwide curfew, the deployment of military personnel, and a complete internet shutdown.

Human rights groups and international observers have strongly criticized the government’s actions, accusing authorities of silencing dissent and undermining democratic principles. The European Parliament and several global organizations have urged President Hassan’s administration to show restraint and engage in dialogue to resolve the crisis peacefully.

Despite the political tension, many Tanzanian celebrities have spoken out in support of peace and unity. Fellow artists like Harmonize and Nandy have called on citizens to remain calm, emphasizing that “music and politics should not divide the nation.”

For Diamond Platnumz, the unfolding events mark one of the most difficult chapters of his career. As a global ambassador of Bongo Flava, his name has long stood for success, creativity, and influence across Africa. But with fans turning against him and political divisions deepening, the star now faces the challenge of rebuilding his public image while staying true to his artistic identity.

His current whereabouts remain undisclosed, though insiders suggest he may stay abroad until the situation stabilizes. As tensions continue to escalate, one thing is clear  the intersection of fame and politics in Tanzania has never been more explosive.
