Mozambique’s Army Chief Visits Rwandan Security Forces in Cabo Delgado

The Chief of the General Staff of the Mozambique Armed Forces, Gen Júlio dos Santos Jane, accompanied by Maj Gen André Rafael Mahunguane, Commander of Mozambique’s Land Forces, paid a visit to Rwandan Security Forces (RSF) deployed in Mocímboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado Province.


The visit, conducted on October 30, 2025, was hosted by Maj Gen V. Gatama, the RSF Commander in Mozambique, and other senior Rwandan officers. Discussions centered on the current security situation in the region and ongoing joint counterterrorism operations.

Gen Jane commended the strong cooperation between the two forces and announced that the joint command headquarters of the Rwandan and Mozambican forces will be relocated from Pemba to Mocímboa da Praia to further strengthen coordination and operational efficiency.

He also welcomed the newly deployed Rwandan troops who recently replaced their counterparts and encouraged both sides to continue working closely to achieve their shared security goals.

The Mozambican Army Chief praised the remarkable progress made in restoring peace and stability in Cabo Delgado, highlighting the crucial role of RSF in combating terrorism and protecting civilians in the region.
