Tanzanians in Rwanda celebrate 62 years of the Republic of Tanzania amid strong bilateral ties

Tanzanians living in Rwanda celebrated the 62nd anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Tanzania in a ceremony held on Tuesday evening in Kigali. The event was marked by celebrations, reflections on bilateral relations, and renewed commitments to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.


The celebration brought together Tanzanian nationals residing in Rwanda, representatives from the Embassy of Tanzania in Rwanda, and senior Rwandan government officials, including the Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr Usta Kaitesi. Other government officials, students, and friends of both Rwanda and Tanzania also attended the event.

In her remarks, Dr Usta Kaitesi praised the strong and growing relationship between Rwanda and Tanzania, highlighting cooperation in key sectors such as trade, transport, education, security, and investment. She noted that the two countries share long-standing historical ties and continue to work closely to deepen their partnership.

She said that Rwanda and Tanzania remain committed to strengthening cooperation based on mutual trust, friendship, and shared development goals. She encouraged continued collaboration in trade and investment to benefit citizens of both nations.

The Tanzanian Ambassador to Rwanda also expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and peaceful environment enjoyed by Tanzanians living in Rwanda. He commended Rwanda for its stability and development-oriented governance, which has fostered strong relations between the two countries.

The celebration featured cultural performances showcasing both Rwandan and Tanzanian traditions, including music, dance, and cultural presentations that reflected the shared heritage and friendship between the two nations. The event also highlighted the historical significance of Tanzania’s Republic Day, which commemorates the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar on April 26, 1964.

Participants emphasized the importance of continued cooperation, especially in areas such as cross-border trade, transport facilitated through the Dar es Salaam port, education exchanges, and regional tourism development.

The event concluded with a networking session where attendees discussed opportunities to further strengthen Rwanda–Tanzania relations, particularly in empowering youth and advancing economic growth within the East African Community.
