Rwanda and France discuss bilateral relations and regional security in Phone Diplomacy Talks
On Tuesday, Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, held a telephone conversation with France’s Special Envoy to the Great Lakes Region, Ambassador Emmanuel Cohet.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Rwanda and France, reflecting ongoing diplomatic engagement aimed at deepening cooperation between the two countries.
According to diplomatic sources, both officials exchanged views on the current state of relations and explored areas of mutual interest, including political dialogue, development cooperation, and regional stability.
A significant part of the conversation also addressed the evolving security situation in the Great Lakes Region. The two sides shared perspectives on the challenges affecting the region and emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and coordinated efforts to promote peace and stability.
Both Rwanda and France reiterated their commitment to maintaining open communication channels and working together on issues of regional concern. They noted that sustained diplomatic engagement plays a key role in building trust and addressing complex regional dynamics.
The conversation comes in the context of continued efforts by both countries to normalize and strengthen relations in recent years, following a period of diplomatic tensions in the past.
Rwanda has consistently emphasized the importance of partnerships based on mutual respect, while France has also expressed interest in reinforcing cooperation in areas such as security, development, and regional peacebuilding.
