The Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has said that members of the Rwanda Defence Force are their blood brothers, adding that the armies of the two countries will soon meet again in a friendly football match.

He said: “The Rwandan army are our blood brothers and people with whom we share family ties. We are always together. Our football teams will meet soon in Musanze for the return match.”

The two armies last faced each other in a friendly match held in Ntungamo District, Uganda, in May 2025. On that occasion, the Uganda army beat RDF 4-3 on penalties.

Relations between the two armies have also been marked by reciprocal visits by their top commanders. In March 2025, Gen Muhoozi visited Rwanda, followed by a return visit by his counterpart, Gen Mubarakh Muganga.
