President Paul Kagame expected on official working visit to Botswana
President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, is expected to undertake an official working visit to Botswana from May 6 to May 7, 2026, following an invitation from Botswana’s President, Duma Gideon Boko on April 30 2026.
According to the Government of Botswana, the visit is aimed at further strengthening the long-standing friendly relations between Rwanda and Botswana and enhancing cooperation in various development-oriented sectors. During the visit, President Kagame and President Boko are expected to hold high-level discussions covering a wide range of areas of mutual interest. These include economic cooperation, investment, technology, education, and good governance.
Both leaders are also expected to explore ways of boosting trade between the two countries and identifying new joint projects that can contribute to improving the welfare of their citizens.
The relationship between Rwanda and Botswana has been built on cooperation in political and economic fields, with both countries expressing a shared commitment to supporting Africa’s development agenda.
This visit is viewed as an important step toward deepening these relations and addressing common challenges facing the continent, such as poverty, unemployment, and limited investment opportunities.
Both Rwanda and Botswana are members of the African Union (AU) as well as other regional organizations. The discussions are also expected to touch on peace and security issues affecting the African continent.
Analysts believe the visit may further strengthen cooperation in addressing security challenges and promoting technology-driven investment across the region. President Kagame’s visit to Botswana is expected to produce significant outcomes in strengthening bilateral relations and opening new opportunities for cooperation in various development sectors between the two countries.
