The body of a man, known by the nickname Karori and estimated to be about 35 years old, was discovered early Tuesday morning, September 16, 2025, in a drainage channel located in Nyiranuma Village, Biryogo Cell, Nyarugenge Sector, Nyarugenge District.

According to information obtained by UKWELITIMES, the man is suspected to have fallen into the drainage while intoxicated, as he had reportedly been drinking heavily the previous day.

Kigali City Police Spokesperson, CIP Wellars Gahonzire, confirmed the incident, saying the man was found dead inside the drainage channel.

“Yes, the body was discovered in Nyiranuma Village, Biryogo Cell. The man had fallen into the drainage and was found dead,” he said.

CIP Gahonzire further explained that the deceased survived by collecting and selling cartons, and it is suspected that he slipped into the drainage after drinking.

“It is said that in the evening he had been at a bar. On his way home, he may have tried to hold onto the metal bars near the drainage, slipped, and fell inside,” he added.

Police also indicated that the man was not a resident of Biryogo but is believed to have come from the Southern Province. Both the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) and the Police have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of death.
