NISR Announces 7.3% Rise in Market Prices for September 2025

The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) announced that consumer prices increased by 7.3% in September 2025 compared to the same month last year, up from 7.1% recorded in August.


According to the latest report, the rise was mainly driven by higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which rose by 4.2% year-on-year and by 1.3% compared to August.

Prices of alcoholic drinks and tobacco increased by 15% from last year and by 1.6% month-on-month. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose by 4.1%, while transport prices increased by 8.6%, marking a 1.7% rise from the previous month.

Health costs surged by 71.1%, while restaurants and hotels rose by 17.7% year-on-year but recorded a slight monthly decline of 0.1%.

Domestically produced goods rose by 6.5% over the year, imported products by 9.5%, and energy prices by 4.5%, showing a 0.4% monthly increase.

In rural areas, prices rose by 5.5% in September compared to 5.9% in August. The main contributors to inflation included food and non-alcoholic beverages (up 3.9%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (up 11%), health services (up 54.8%), and restaurants and accommodation (up 16.3%).

Overall, between August and September 2025, consumer prices rose by 1.2%, mainly due to the 1.7% increase in food and non-alcoholic beverage prices.
