Iran has executed a man who was convicted of spying for Israel, according to state media reports.

The individual, identified as Babak Shahbazi, was hanged on 17 September 2025 for allegedly collecting and selling classified information related to Iranian technology and security institutions to Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad.

Shahbazi had reportedly collaborated with another man, Esmaeil Fekri, who was executed in June 2025. Both were suspected of working with Mossad since early 2022.

Authorities said Shahbazi used his position in refrigeration equipment management to access sensitive data from government servers, which he then passed on to the Israeli intelligence service.

Shahbazi’s lawyer had petitioned for an appeal to Iran’s Supreme Court, but the request was denied.

Iran and Israel have a long-standing adversarial relationship, and this year alone, Iranian authorities have executed nine individuals suspected of aiding Mossad operations within the country.
