I Closed That Chapter”: Why Saumu Mbuvi Says Marriage Is No Longer a Priority
Saumu Mbuvi has firmly stated that marriage is no longer a priority for her, following years of painful breakups and renewed public attention after her sister Salma’s assault incident involving her husband. Now living in Dubai, the mother of two is focused on healing, personal growth and building her own empire.
Saumu Mbuvi has reaffirmed that marriage is no longer on her list of priorities a stance she says has grown firmer in light of her family’s recent challenges, including the assault case involving her sister, Salma.
A Viral Confrontation Sparks National Debate
A video showing former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko confronting his son-in-law for allegedly assaulting Salma recently went viral across Kenyan social media. In the emotionally charged clip, Sonko questions why a man he supports financially covering rent, food and other essentials would repeatedly harm his daughter.
“If I hit you, how would you feel? And this is not the first time,” Sonko says, as the man repeatedly apologises. Many Kenyans praised the former governor for taking a strong stand against gender-based violence, commending him for defending his daughter publicly.
Attention Shifts to Saumu But She Isn’t Interested in Marriage
Following the uproar, fans turned their attention to Saumu, flooding her TikTok comments with messages of sympathy, humour and even marriage proposals. But she made her position clear: she is not looking for a husband.
Responding to one playful admirer, she wrote:
“I left that group a long time ago unless a miracle happens. I’m busy building my own empire.”
When another follower went as far as promising to buy her a car if she agreed to marry him, she declined instantly:
“Look for someone else I closed that chapter.”
Breakups, Abuse Allegations and Lessons Learned
Saumu’s firm stance comes from a long, painful history with past relationships. She is a mother of two daughters one with businessman Ben Gatu and another with former Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip. Both relationships ended amid allegations of abuse.
In a candid 2022 interview with Mpasho, she admitted she often rushed into relationships without taking time to heal, driven by a fear of being alone. By 2021, she had fully walked away from Loitiptip and embraced single motherhood.
Despite the turbulent past, she now maintains a healthy co-parenting relationship with Gatu, whom she has publicly praised for stepping up for their daughter.
A New Life in Dubai
Saumu has since relocated to Dubai, where she says the environment aligns with her values and long-term aspirations. Her commitment to advocacy deepened in 2023 when she was appointed Machakos State Chair for the Anti–Gender Based Violence wing under the All-Ladies League.
Motherhood Remains Her Anchor
Through every chapter, Saumu says her daughters remain her greatest source of joy and purpose. The two girls share the same birthday born years apart a coincidence she often describes with affection.
“I don’t regret anything as long as I have my children. They are my happiness,” she said in a recent post.
She also credits her parents for their unwavering support. Her mother plays an instrumental role in raising the girls, while she refers to her father as her “strongest pillar.”
Healing First, Love Later
Saumu says her current focus is self-improvement, healing and enjoying life at her own pace.
“I want to go for as many vacations as possible. I don’t want to hurry,” she once said, emphasising that her peace comes before any relationship commitments.
Saumu Mbuvi beams with confidence and elegance, embracing a new chapter focused on healing, growth, and single motherhood.
