Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan delivered a firm message on Tuesday, warning that the government will not tolerate any actions aimed at destabilizing the country under the guise of protests.

Addressing the nation, President Samia said the unrest that followed the October elections was not a spontaneous expression of public dissatisfaction, but rather “a well-orchestrated operation” planned by individuals whose intention was to disrupt national stability and “illegally overthrow the government.”

She noted that the violence involved actors from within the country as well as external collaborators, whom she accused of attempting to exploit local frustrations for political gain. Samia urged young people in particular to avoid being manipulated by those who “seek to use citizens as tools in battles that are not theirs.”

Responding to claims that security agencies used excessive force during the disturbances, the President defended the operations, saying the force applied was proportional to the severity of the situation. She emphasized the state’s responsibility to protect citizens, property, and national borders, adding that no government can “stand by and do nothing when the country is under coordinated attack.”

Samia also stressed that Tanzania must not fall into divisions driven by post-election emotions. She called for unity and calm, underscoring that the nation can only progress when citizens put peace and stability first.

She reaffirmed that relevant authorities are continuing investigations into what transpired during the unrest, but insisted that the government will take a strong stance against anyone seeking to undermine national security.

As political tensions continue, opposition groups maintain that citizens should be allowed to express dissent peacefully. However, the government’s position remains clear: safeguarding stability comes before all else.

For President Samia, the message is unmistakable — “Tanzania will not be shaken.”
