The Minister of National Unity and Civic Engagement, Dr. Bizimana Jean Damascène, has urged individuals who took part in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi to undergo genuine transformation, accept responsibility for their past actions, and support good governance that promotes national unity in Rwanda.
He delivered this message on Saturday during a commemoration event held in Nyamagabe District as part of the ongoing #Kwibuka32 genocide commemoration activities. The event took place in Cyanika Sector.
Dr. Bizimana emphasized that true reconciliation requires deep remorse from those who participated in the genocide, encouraging them to reflect sincerely on the crimes committed and to feel genuine sorrow for the suffering they caused. He noted that such personal transformation should lead them to become responsible and constructive citizens who contribute positively to the country’s development.
He also stressed the importance of supporting leadership and national systems that prioritize unity among Rwandans, saying that rebuilding trust and strengthening social cohesion remain central to Rwanda’s long-term healing process.
The commemoration activities are part of the 32nd anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, during which the country continues to honor victims and promote remembrance, unity, and resilience.
