Amb. Vincent Karega Presents Credentials to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune
Rwanda’s Ambassador to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, H.E. Vincent Karega, has officially presented his letters of credence to H.E. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of Algeria, accrediting him as Rwanda’s first resident ambassador in Algeria.
The presentation ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Presidential Palace, marking an important step in consolidating the long-standing diplomatic relations between Rwanda and Algeria.
Speaking after the ceremony, Ambassador Karega expressed his deep honor to represent Rwanda in Algeria and reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to advancing cooperation based on shared continental aspirations.
“It is an honor to represent my country in Algeria. Both Rwanda and Algeria are committed to advancing African unity and development through strengthened bilateral relations,” Amb. Karega stated.
Ambassador Karega’s appointment was approved by the Cabinet meeting chaired by President Paul Kagame on July 16, 2025. His posting underscores Rwanda’s intention to further deepen ties with North African countries and promote collaboration within the African continent.
Rwanda and Algeria share a long history of partnership dating back to 1982, covering sectors such as education, security, culture, and socio-economic development. Algerian universities continue to host Rwandan students, reflecting growing academic and people-to-people exchanges.
In December 2023, Algeria opened its embassy in Kigali a clear demonstration of its commitment to strengthen bilateral and regional cooperation.
Earlier this year, President Kagame paid a state visit to Algeria, where he and President Tebboune held discussions aimed at expanding cooperation in trade, innovation, and knowledge exchange. During the visit, President Kagame toured the National School of Artificial Intelligence, a leading institution that also trains Rwandan students.
Ambassador Karega is a seasoned diplomat who has previously represented Rwanda in South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and also served as Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region from December 2024.
With his accreditation in Algiers, both countries are expected to explore new frameworks for cooperation that promote mutual growth, continental solidarity, and sustainable development.
