Oman Air to Launch Direct Flights Between Oman and Kigali
Oman’s national airline, Oman Air, is set to launch direct flights connecting Muscat and Kigali, a move expected to strengthen trade and tourism ties between the two countries.
The new flights are scheduled to begin in June 2026, according to Oman Air CEO, Con Korfiatis. The announcement comes as Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe, undertakes an official working visit to Oman.
The signing ceremony for the aviation agreement was attended by the Rwandan delegation, including Minister Nduhungirehe, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Yusufu Murangwa, Minister of ICT and Innovation Paula Ingabire, RDB Deputy CEO Juliana Muganza and State Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure Jean De Dieu Uwihanganye.
In Muscat, a delegation of senior Rwandan government officials signed four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with their Omani counterparts aimed at deepening cooperation between the two countries in key strategic sectors. The agreements cover logistics services, including inland port development, operations, and related supply chain services under the leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure.
Another MoU focuses on transportation, paving the way for the launch of direct flights between Muscat and Kigali with Oman Air starting in June. A third agreement strengthens development collaboration between the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and Oman Airports Management Company, with investments centered around the new Bugesera Airport District.
The fourth MoU enhances ICT and innovation cooperation between the Rwandan and Omani Ministries of ICT, covering areas such as data hosting, cloud services, and data centre operations. These agreements mark a significant step in expanding Rwanda–Oman partnership across economic, infrastructural, and technological sectors.
Rwanda has maintained a strong partnership with the Sultanate of Oman for years. In February 2016, Oman-based Mawarid Mining LLC signed a three-year agreement on mining activities in Karongi District.
In 2020, Rwanda hosted the Omani Products Exhibition (OPEX) at Kigali Convention Centre, bringing together over 80 companies and industries from Oman.
Oman’s economy is diverse, producing goods from food processing, construction materials, and household items to education services, tourism, oils, handicrafts, and arts. The new air link will further enhance economic, cultural, and tourism cooperation between the two nations.
