Police in Kyenjojo District, Uganda, have arrested Richard Mwesige, 40 years, on suspicion of killing and cannibalism of his wife. Mwesige was taken into custody on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

Police began investigating the case after Karungi, 35 years, who lived with Mwesige and had a child with him, went missing for six weeks without a trace.

The case was reported to the police by the Kihara village leader, Asaaba Aheebwa, who stated he had not seen Karungi for an extended period and that her husband had been behaving unusually.

Following the report, authorities searched Mwesige's home, where they discovered human remains, including body parts like a human head in a plastic bag hanging from the ceiling, along with other bones.

The remains were taken to Kyenjojo Hospital for DNA testing to determine the identity of the victim and the cause of death.

The nature of the gruesome discovery has intensified suspicions that Mwesige may have eaten his wife.
