Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, has strongly condemned Israel’s recent airstrike on Qatari territory, warning that such aggression will not go unanswered and asserting his country’s right to respond by any means necessary

The comments come after a September 9, 2025, operation in which the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), in coordination with the Shin Bet intelligence agency, launched a series of airstrikes on buildings in Qatar allegedly housing senior Hamas leaders.

According to reports, 15 Israeli fighter jets dropped around 10 missiles in a precision strike. Hamas later confirmed that its leadership survived the attack.

Speaking at a press conference, Sheikh Mohammed called the assault an act of terrorism and warned that it could significantly destabilize the Middle East region.

"This changes everything," he said. "The region must unite to condemn this violent and reckless behavior. What Israel has done is terrorism, plain and simple."

He also took aim at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of fueling regional tensions for personal and political gain. Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Qatar’s commitment to supporting peace efforts and bringing an end to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

However, he acknowledged that the Israeli attack has severely undermined diplomatic efforts to resolve the war through peaceful negotiation, casting doubt on a U.S.-backed mediation process led by former President Donald Trump.

"The peace talks were making significant progress, but after such a blatant act of aggression, those efforts are now meaningless," he said.

Trump had recently warned Hamas to release Israeli hostages taken during the October 7, 2025, attack, stating that Israel had agreed to certain conditions for a ceasefire. In parallel, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz had issued a stern warning, threatening to completely dismantle Hamas if it refused to surrender.

Following those statements, Hamas expressed a willingness to return to the negotiation table, saying it was open to discussions in light of the American proposals. However, Qatar now suggests that the airstrike may have completely derailed any remaining hope for a diplomatic solution.
