Rwanda Community in Kenya Kicks Off Inaugural Imena Football Tournament 2025
The Rwanda Community in Kenya launched the inaugural Imena Football Tournament 2025 at Marist International University College, bringing together teams from Bondo, Thika, Kasarani, and Marist to celebrate unity, culture, and sports. High Commissioner Ernest Rwamucyo urged players to uphold Rwandan values of unity, respect, and patriotism. The tournament is part of the Rwanda Cultural Night & Exhibition Gala.
The vibrant spirit of sports and culture came alive in Nairobi today as the Rwanda Community in Kenya officially launched the first-ever Imena Football Tournament 2025 at Marist International University College in Karen.
The highly anticipated tournament brings together four competitive teams representing different Rwandan community clusters across Kenya: Bondo (Siaya County), Thika (Kiambu County), Kasarani (Nairobi County), and Marist International University College (Nairobi County). The event is aimed at strengthening community ties, promoting unity, and celebrating Rwandan identity through sports.
Speaking during the official opening ceremony, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Kenya, H.E. Ernest Rwamucyo, commended the players for their enthusiasm, discipline, and team spirit.
“This tournament is not just about footballit is a celebration of who we are as Rwandans. Through unity, respect, and patriotism, we can build stronger communities and represent our country with pride,” said High Commissioner Rwamucyo.
He further encouraged participants to uphold core Rwandan values of unity, mutual respect, and patriotism throughout the competition.
The Imena Football Tournament is part of the broader Rwanda Cultural Night & Exhibition Gala, a flagship community event celebrating Rwandan culture, sports, and heritage in the diaspora. The week-long activities are designed to foster togetherness, showcase cultural talent, and strengthen networks among Rwandans living in Kenya.
Participants and spectators expressed excitement over the tournament, describing it as a “moment of pride and connection.” Organizers say the event will become an annual tradition, bringing Rwandans in Kenya together through healthy competition and cultural celebration.
