President Kagame Promotes Over 600 RDF Officers to Higher Ranks
Commander-in-Chief of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), President Paul Kagame, has promoted 632 officers from the rank of Sous-Lieutenant to Lieutenant, marking another milestone in the professional growth of the national army.
According to a statement from RDF Headquarters, the promotions take immediate effect from the date of the announcement.
The RDF emphasized that such promotions reflect not only institutional progress but also recognize individual commitment, discipline, and exemplary service both at home and in international peacekeeping missions.
Rwanda continues to be one of the leading troop-contributing countries to United Nations peacekeeping operations, with over 4,585 personnel, including 249 women, currently deployed in missions in South Sudan and the Central African Republic (CAR). Additionally, Rwandan forces operate under bilateral and regional security agreements in CAR and Mozambique.
President Kagame has repeatedly underscored that a true soldier is one who serves citizens with dedication and integrity. While commissioning 1,029 new officer cadets into the RDF on October 3, 2025, he reminded them that serving the nation faithfully is the hallmark of a professional soldier.
These new promotions reaffirm the RDF’s steady growth as a disciplined, professional, and people-centered force that continues to uphold Rwanda’s sovereignty and contribute to global peace.
