Guinea Citizens Cast Their Votes in Presidential Election
On Sunday morning, December 28, 2025, citizens of Guinea-Conakry headed to polling stations to participate in the presidential election, with Gen. Mamadi Doumbouya widely favored to win.
Voting centers opened at 7:00 AM, welcoming over 6.7 million registered voters. Election results are expected to be announced within 72 hours.
A total of seven candidates are contesting the presidency, including Gen. Mamadi Doumbouya, Abdoulaye Yéro Baldé, Makalé Camara, Ibrahima Abé Sylla, Faya Lansana Millimono, Abdoulaye Kourouma, Mohamed Nabé, Bouna Keita, and Mohamed Chérif Tounkara.
Among them, Gen. Doumbouya is considered the front-runner, largely due to his political influence and incumbency.
Several opponents are participating from exile, including former President Alpha Condé, who was ousted in 2021, and opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo. Prior to the elections in August 2025, Doumbouya suspended three opposition parties, including Condé’s former party.
Gen. Doumbouya, who served in the French military in countries such as Afghanistan, led the group that overthrew President Condé on September 5, 2021, and has been in power since then.
