FERWACY Signs Partnership with Rusizi District to Host “Race to Remember” 2026.
The Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) has officially signed a cooperation agreement with Rusizi District to host the annual “Race to Remember,” a cycling event dedicated to commemorating the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The agreement was signed by FERWACY President Samson Ndayishimiye, while Rusizi District was represented by its Mayor, Sindayiheba Phanuel.
The two-day race is scheduled to take place on April 25 and 26, 2026, bringing together cyclists from various teams both locally and internationally.
On the first day, riders will start from Karongi District and finish in Rusizi, covering a long and competitive route. The second day will feature a circuit race within Rusizi, giving local residents a chance to witness and support the sport up close.
FERWACY President Samson Ndayishimiye stated that this partnership marks an important step in promoting cycling across the country and expanding its reach.
He emphasized that beyond sports, the race plays a significant role in remembering Rwanda’s history, particularly the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Rusizi District Mayor Sindayiheba Phanuel expressed readiness to host the event, noting that it will also boost tourism and the local economy as visitors and participants gather in the area.
The “Race to Remember” is one of Rwanda’s key cycling events linked to the Kwibuka commemoration period, serving as a platform to honor the past while inspiring unity and resilience for the future.
Residents, especially those in Rusizi, are encouraged to attend in large numbers to support the cyclists and celebrate the growth of cycling in Rwanda.
