"You cannot build Rwanda without building yourself first" President Kagame
At the year-end party held at Kigali Convention Centre, President Paul Kagame joined by First Lady Jeannette Kagame addressed Rwanda’s youth and welcomed guests, reminding them that building the nation starts with building themselves.
The event, held on Monday evening, December 29, 2025, brought together government leaders, diplomats, youth, artists, and representatives from international organizations. The celebration was not only a reflection on the achievements of 2025 but also a call to action for the year ahead.
President Kagame began by acknowledging the efforts of Rwandans over the past year and encouraging them to aim even higher in 2026. “I thank you as citizens who have worked for your country. We have achieved a lot, and we look forward to achieving even more in the new year 2026,” he said, expressing his gratitude for the dedication that has driven national progress.
He then highlighted the critical role of security in national development, emphasizing that peace and safety are the foundation for all growth.
“I appreciate the citizens I mentioned across the country. Their contribution to security is immense. Of course, there are those I will follow closely: young men and women, your peers, your brothers and sisters, who work day and night, and others who give their lives so that yours are protected,” he added, paying tribute to those who ensure the safety of all citizens.
Turning to the youth, President Kagame reminded them of their immense potential and the responsibility that comes with it.
“To you the youth who are here, you are the majority of Rwanda’s population. Having 75% of the population under 30 is an immense source of strength. We have to ensure that strength is anchored in our values and meaningful work that enable you to build yourself and your country. You cannot build Rwanda without building yourself first. That is what I ask of you and that is my wish for you.” His message underscored the importance of self-development as the cornerstone of nation-building.
He further encouraged young people to channel their energy into positive habits, culture, and meaningful actions. “We must instill these energies with culture and good actions so that you can build yourselves and find ways to build Rwanda,” he said, highlighting that personal growth and civic responsibility go hand in hand.
Finally, President Kagame reminded citizens to enjoy the festive season responsibly while being mindful of their health and safety.
“The hours we extended, but there are things we could not control. Now the police and others have been told not to enforce time restrictions on anyone at any hour, but my capacity also has its limits. I could not tell them not to use measuring devices,” he noted, balancing celebration with responsibility.
The year-end party celebrated Rwanda’s achievements in 2025 while inspiring its citizens, particularly the youth, to continue building themselves as the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous nation in 2026.
