Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has formally launched her bid for a second term, collecting nomination forms for the presidency under the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party in Dodoma.

Accompanied by her running mate, Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, Suluhu on Saturday received the forms from the Independent Electoral Commission offices in the capital before proceeding to the CCM headquarters, where she was welcomed by a large crowd of party members and residents.

“I thank my fellow CCM members and all the people of Dodoma for the warm reception after I collected the nomination forms to contest for the Presidency of the United Republic of Tanzania,” Suluhu said.

“When the time comes, we will meet with the people to share what we have accomplished and what we plan to do in the next five years, as we seek the mandate to continue leading our nation.

General elections are due to be held in Tanzania on 29 October 2025.

The president called for unity and harmony during the campaign season, urging Tanzanians to safeguard the peace that has long been a cornerstone of the nation’s stability.

“My appeal is for us to continue maintaining peace, unity, and solidarity to ensure a resounding victory for our party and to keep serving citizens as they expect,” she said.

Suluhu, 65, made history in March 2021 when she became Tanzania’s first female president, succeeding John Magufuli following his sudden death. At the time, she was serving as vice president, a position she had held since 2015.
