Rwanda and Uzbekistan have officially established diplomatic relations, marking a significant step in expanding bilateral cooperation and international partnerships.

The agreement was formalized on April 18, 2026, through the signing of a Joint Communiqué by Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister and Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe. The document confirms the formal launch of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

In addition, both countries signed a separate agreement between their foreign ministries to create a structured framework for regular political consultations. This mechanism is expected to strengthen dialogue, enhance mutual understanding, and promote collaboration on shared interests.

The establishment of relations with Rwanda makes it the 167th country with which Uzbekistan has formed diplomatic ties, reflecting its growing engagement with African nations.

Officials say the new partnership could unlock opportunities in key sectors such as trade, investment, education, technology, and agriculture. It also aligns with Rwanda’s broader strategy of expanding its global diplomatic footprint and fostering mutually beneficial international cooperation.

The move is seen as a foundation for long-term collaboration aimed at supporting sustainable development and economic growth in both countries.
