Rwanda and Uganda Deepen Cooperation with New Agreements Across Key Sectors
Rwanda and Uganda have strengthened their bilateral ties through the signing of new cooperation agreements covering health, agriculture, education, and local governance.
The agreements were concluded during the 12th session of the Joint Permanent Commission held in Kampala from April 20 to 22, 2026. The meeting brought together senior officials from both countries to review progress and identify new areas of collaboration.
In the health sector, Dr Sabin Nsanzimana and Dr Jane Ruth Aceng signed an agreement aimed at strengthening epidemic preparedness, enhancing training for healthcare workers, and coordinating key health interventions.
Beyond health, discussions covered a wide range of sectors including security and defense, infrastructure development, immigration management, police cooperation, and education.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to boosting collaboration in trade, infrastructure, and capacity building to improve the welfare of their citizens.
The outcomes of the meeting underscored the strong and longstanding relationship between the two neighboring countries, often described as brotherly ties, and highlighted a shared political will to further deepen cooperation for mutual benefit.
