The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), in collaboration with @Rwandapolice, has arrested Manirakiza Straton, an employee of the Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) responsible for maintenance of the Ruhanga water pipeline in Rusororo Sector, on suspicion of corruption.

The arrest follows complaints from residents about irregular water distribution, which prompted an official investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that since May this year, during periods of water shortage, Manirakiza allegedly demanded money from some residents to connect their households to the pipeline delivering water from the market, bypassing the public water fund in violation of WASAC regulations.

This misconduct affected residents served by the Ruhanga water reservoir, which supplies four villages: Ruhanga, Rugende, Mirama, and Nyagacyamo.

Manirakiza is currently detained at RIB Kacyiru Station while investigations continue, and a case file is being prepared for submission to the Prosecutor’s Office.

RIB and Police warned officials entrusted with public duties against abusing their positions for personal gain, stressing that such acts harm both citizens and national development, and are punishable by law. Authorities also confirmed that investigations into similar misconduct are ongoing in other parts of the country.
