The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has arrested Emmanuel Nsoneye, an inspector at the Rwanda Food and Drug Authority (Rwanda FDA), along with Beatha Uwamariya, a beverage manufacturer, over allegations of bribery. Nsoneye is also being investigated for violating professional secrecy.

According to RIB, Nsoneye repeatedly solicited and received bribes from Uwamariya, the owner of Dusangire Production Ltd, an alcohol-producing company based in Bugesera District.

In return, he allegedly offered to grant illegal exemptions during product quality inspections conducted by the Rwanda FDA.

RIB announced via its official X account that the case files for both suspects have been forwarded to the Prosecution Authority. The two are currently detained at RIB stations in Nyarugenge and Nyamata.

The investigative body warned manufacturers who produce substandard goods to stop such practices, emphasizing that they are illegal. RIB further reminded public officials that abusing the authority granted to them by law for personal gain is a serious offense that will not be toleraLted.
