Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), Louise Mushikiwabo, has said she believes she still has more to offer the global body as she prepares to seek another term in office.

She made the remarks while speaking during an interview with Jeune Afrique, where she reflected on her leadership and future ambitions for the organisation she has headed since 2018.

Her comments come roughly ten months before the next Francophonie summit, where member states are expected to choose the organisation’s leadership. Rwanda has already announced its intention to present Mushikiwabo as its candidate for a third mandate.

Despite reports that the Democratic Republic of Congo may back a rival contender, Mushikiwabo indicated she is not worried about potential opposition, signaling confidence in her record and her vision for the institution’s direction.

Since taking office, she has overseen efforts aimed at strengthening cooperation among member states, promoting the French language globally, and reinforcing the Francophonie’s political and diplomatic role on the international stage.

Her possible candidacy sets the stage for what could become a closely watched leadership contest within the organisation as the summit approaches.
