Rwandan experts, lawmakers, and civil society leaders convened to discuss the role of youth and women in building peaceful and capable families, with Tito Rutaremara praising the Forum of Rwandan Women Parliamentarians (FFRP) for advancing laws protecting women and girls.

On December 30, 2025, Tito Rutaremara, Head of Rwanda’s Council of Experts, has commended the Forum of Rwandan Women Parliamentarians (FFRP) for its pivotal role in passing legislation that safeguards the rights of women and girls, including laws on inheritance.

"Traditionally, women and girls were often denied a voice in their households. Men looked at us all, and we thought women and girls should have no rights," Rutaremara said.

Addressing challenges in modern family life, he noted that parents increasingly lack the time to engage with their children.

"Today, education systems provide knowledge, and teachers contribute significantly, but parents are often absent. In the past, a child was raised not only by their father and mother but also by uncles, aunts, and grandparents," he explained.

Rutaremara also emphasized the importance of youth in national development, pointing out that the young people who helped liberate Rwanda and end the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi demonstrated the extraordinary potential of youth.

"They know that youth can achieve anything, because that is what they accomplished. That is why the government listens to them. That is an opportunity. Another opportunity is that the government supports youth to the extent of its capacity," he added.

The dialogue gathered members of parliament, government leaders, and civil society representatives involved in family welfare, youth development, and social cohesion. The discussions, organized by the FFRP, centered on the theme: “Exchanging ideas between youth and elders for a peaceful and capable family that prepares Rwanda’s leaders of tomorrow.”

The event follows nationwide visits conducted by the FFRP in March 2025 to examine challenges facing families, including conflicts and social tensions.

By fostering intergenerational dialogue, the forum aims to strengthen family structures and ensure that both youth and adults play an active role in shaping Rwanda’s future leadership.
