Rwanda and China have signed a cooperation agreement between the Rwanda Forensic Institute and China’s DNA Service Center (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd.

The agreement was signed on behalf of Rwanda by Minister of Justice Dr. Emmanuel Ugirashebuja, and by Ambassador GAO Wenqi for China.

The new Next-Generation Sequencing system marks the beginning of a transformative era for Rwanda’s justice sector. With advanced DNA analysis to resolve complex cases, stronger tools for child protection, and enhanced identity verification, Rwanda is poised to become a regional forensic hub.

Minister Ugirashebuja stated: "A milestone for Rwanda: boosting forensic capacity, advancing justice, and safeguarding our people. With China, we lay the groundwork for Rwanda as a regional hub of forensic excellence."

This partnership is expected to strengthen Rwanda’s ability to collect and analyze forensic evidence professionally, positioning the country as a model in the region for legal and scientific standards.
