Rwanda and Brazil have reaffirmed their commitment to strong bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including diplomacy, environmental protection, sports, and education.

This was highlighted during a meeting between Brazil’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Irene Vida Gala, and the Speaker of Rwanda’s Chamber of Deputies, Hon. Kazarwa Gerturde, on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

The discussions focused on deepening friendly relations between the two countries, enhancing cooperation in tourism through the Visit Rwanda program, promoting environmental initiatives, fostering trade, and strengthening parliamentary collaboration.

Hon. Kazarwa told the press that this partnership offers promising opportunities for development. She emphasized that although the Brazilian community in Rwanda is small, the talks aim to boost investment, expand educational programs, and attract more Brazilian visitors to Rwanda.

“The Brazilian Ambassador is opening doors for her compatriots to experience Rwanda as a welcoming and livable country,” she said.

Ambassador Irene Vida also announced that in the coming days, Brazilian-Rwandan joint programs will welcome Rwandan students to Brazil for educational exchanges.

Rwanda and Brazil first established diplomatic relations in 1981, signing multiple bilateral agreements over the years. In 2019, they signed a Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA), and in 2011, they signed agreements to strengthen food security. Brazil is a leading global exporter of coffee, soybeans, wheat, and oranges.
