South Africa's government has said it will not engage in "counterproductive megaphone diplomacy" in response to a new social media post by US President Donald Trump that reiterated his assertion that land was being seized by Pretoria.

In addition to offering citizenship, Trump invited all farmers who wanted "to flee [South Africa] for reasons of safety" to relocate.

According to South Africa, Trump has misinterpreted the nation's recently passed land expropriation law.

However, the US president has already frozen financial aid to the nation as a result of it.

The government responded to the most recent remark by stating that South Africa remained dedicated to establishing a trade, political, and diplomatic partnership with the Trump administration that would benefit both parties.

A spokeswoman went on to say that respect for one another should be the foundation of the two nations' relationship.

The new land law in South Africa, which was enacted in January, permits land seizures under specific conditions without payment.

Trump claimed there was discrimination against the white Afrikaner minority, who are descended from Dutch and French settlers, in his executive order last month that halted aid to South Africa.

The South African government disputes the US president's claim that their land was being taken without payment.  In spite of his promises to cut down on immigration, he also granted Afrikaner farmers refugee status.

Trump stated on Friday that any farmer, not just Afrikaner farmers, might move to the United States.

White South African farmers' plight has long served as a rallying cry for the far-right and right wing of American politics.

Even after the racist apartheid system ended thirty years ago, white people still hold the majority of South Africa's private property, making land ownership a controversial topic.

Calls for the government to address land reform and the historical injustices of racial segregation have persisted.

Only in situations when it is "just and equitable and in the public interest" is expropriation without compensation permitted by the new law.

Last week, U.S. support for HIV programs in South Africa was discontinued.

Additionally, the United States withdrew from a climate deal that sought to persuade wealthy nations to assist a select number of developing nations, such as South Africa, in switching from coal to renewable energy.
