‘Kigali Sky Wheel’: Rwanda’s First Giant Ferris Wheel Set to Boost Tourism and Entertainment in the Capital
By the end of 2025, Rwanda’s capital city, Kigali, will unveil a landmark attraction set to redefine urban leisure and tourism: the Kigali Sky Wheel, the country’s first-ever giant Ferris wheel.
Standing at 55 meters tall, the Kigali Sky Wheel is being constructed as part of the Inzovu Mall, a new commercial and entertainment complex under development in Kimihurura, Gasabo District, just across from the Kigali Convention Centre.
The project is expected to cost $2.7 million, which is over RWF 3.8 billion, making it one of the most significant private investments in Rwanda’s leisure and tourism sector in recent years.
It is being developed through a partnership between Mo Gashi and Partners, a Canadian firm, and Kigali Ferris Wheel Ltd, a Rwandan company led by entrepreneur Moses Umugisha Gashirabake.
According to Gashirabake, Ferris wheels have become iconic structures in cities around the world, attracting both local residents and international tourists.
“These attractions give a unique identity to a city and have the power to draw visitors on their own. They appeal to a wide range of people and offer a shared and memorable experience,” he explained.
The Kigali Sky Wheel will feature multiple gondolas (enclosed cabins) rotating slowly to offer panoramic views of the city. A full ride will last between 15 to 20 minutes, giving visitors a unique perspective of Kigali’s skyline, its urban greenery, and surrounding hills.
Beyond sightseeing, the wheel aims to become a hub for entertainment, relaxation, and cultural immersion.
Added Services and Attractions
Visitors to the Kigali Sky Wheel will enjoy a wide range of services and experiences, including:
- Nighttime light shows celebrating Kigali’s vibrant evening skyline
- Souvenir and gift shops
- Light meals, drinks, and refreshment stands
- Photo zones for capturing memories
- Event spaces for private or public functions
- Advertising opportunities for businesses to showcase their brands on the structure itself
The Kigali Sky Wheel comes at a time when the city is gaining global attention. In 2024, Kigali was ranked third among Africa’s most visited cities by international tourists a testament to its safety, cleanliness, and growing appeal.
Gashirabake emphasized that the project aligns with Rwanda’s national strategy of promoting MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism and modernizing the country’s urban entertainment offerings.
He further noted that the investment was inspired by the vision of President Paul Kagame, who has consistently encouraged Rwandans in the diaspora to invest back home.
“This project is not just a business. It creates jobs, brings in revenue, and offers affordable, modern entertainment for people of all backgrounds,” Gashirabake said.
Ferris wheels have become signature landmarks in cities such as London, Singapore, and Dubai. Now, Kigali is poised to join that list with a project that combines aesthetic appeal, economic value, and social impact.
The Kigali Sky Wheel is more than just a ride it’s a new way to experience Rwanda’s capital, and a clear signal that Kigali is ready to embrace bold ideas that shape its future as a modern, inclusive, and tourist-friendly African city.
