Tanzanian President Reminds Journalists That "Pens Can Be Mightier Than Bullets"
Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has urged journalists to use their voices to promote peace and provide constructive information as the country heads toward the general elections scheduled for October 2025.
She reminded the media that “a pen can be mightier than a bullet,” emphasizing the need to avoid reporting that could fuel hatred or unrest among citizens.
President Samia cautioned Tanzanians to remain vigilant against those who may try to mislead them with the aim of destabilizing the country. She noted that similar situations had caused turmoil elsewhere, though she chose not to name specific countries.
Highlighting the significance of the upcoming elections, she stressed that the democratic process should be a platform to strengthen unity rather than division. She added that maintaining peace is a shared responsibility, particularly for journalists who play a vital role in shaping public opinion and spreading information that fosters cohesion.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan assumed leadership in March 2021 following the passing of her predecessor, John Pombe Magufuli. She will represent the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), in the presidential elections set for October 2025.
