President Paul Kagame on Saturday attended the swearing-in ceremony of his Guinean counterpart, President Mamadi Doumbouya, held at Stade Général Lansana Conté in Conakry.

President Kagame arrived in the Guinean capital on Friday evening, where he was received at Conakry International Airport by Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah. The ceremony marked the official start of President Doumbouya’s elected term following his victory in the December 2025 presidential election.

Earlier this month, Guinea’s Supreme Court confirmed the final election results, declaring Doumbouya the winner with 86.7 per cent of the vote. He had led the country as head of the transitional government since September 2021.

President Doumbouya rose to power after a military takeover that removed former President Alpha Condé in September 2021. In a national address on January 4, 2026, he said Guinea was entering a new chapter characterised by unity, reconciliation and shared national purpose.

“Today, we are opening a new era with no winners and no losers. What we have is one united and indivisible Guinea,” Doumbouya said, calling on citizens to work together to build a peaceful, just and sovereign nation.

Rwanda and Guinea-Conakry enjoy strong bilateral relations, underpinned by regular high-level engagements and cooperation across various sectors. President Doumbouya has visited Rwanda on several occasions, including in May 2025 while leading the transitional government, as well as in January 2024.

He also attended President Kagame’s swearing-in ceremony in August 2024 following Kagame’s re-election. President Kagame, in turn, has made multiple visits to Guinea, including a two-day working visit in November 2025 and an earlier trip in May 2024.

During these engagements, the two leaders discussed cooperation in key areas such as information and communication technology, trade, investment and economic development.

Rwanda and Guinea have signed a number of bilateral cooperation agreements covering sectors including ICT, agriculture, investment, services, tourism, energy and trade. The agreements were formalised in October 2024, further strengthening ties between the two countries.
