Reuben Kigame survived a near-fatal crash after an Easy Coach bus allegedly attempted a risky overtake along the Kapsabet–Chavakali road in Vihiga. He blamed the company, NTSA and road authorities for reckless driving and poor road conditions.

Former presidential aspirant Reuben Kigame has criticised Easy Coach following a near-fatal road incident early Sunday morning along the Kapsabet Chavakali road in Vihiga County.

Kigame said an Easy Coach bus attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speed at around 5:00 a.m., forcing his driver to swerve off the road to avoid a head-on collision. The vehicle veered into a ditch, narrowly escaping what he described as a potentially deadly crash.

In a statement posted on his X account, Kigame accused the company of negligence, alleging that a reckless driver had been allowed to operate the bus. He also faulted local and national road authorities, including the National Transport and Safety Authority, for what he termed as the poor condition of the road where the incident occurred.

“Easy Coach, you wanted to kill us this morning. You came with full lights aiming at us and drove us into the ditch. Shame on you as a company, shame on your drivers, Vihiga County, the Kenya Highways Authority and the NTSA. If it was not God, I would be dead together with my friends here,” he said.

Kigame further blamed the contractor responsible for the Shiru section of the road, saying the deplorable state of the highway contributed to the dangerous situation. He expressed gratitude to Mr. Manasseh Kijo and a group of young men who assisted them out of the ditch.

At the time of the incident, Kigame was travelling to address students at the University of Eldoret.

The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety standards, driver discipline and infrastructure conditions on major Kenyan highways.
