Rwandan Peacekeepers in Central African Republic Honored with Service Medals
On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Rwandan soldiers serving in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Bria, Central African Republic (CAR), were awarded medals in recognition of their dedicated service.
The medals were presented to members of the Rwanda Battle Group VII (RWABG VII) and Rwandan Level II+ Military Hospital (RWAMED X), both actively engaged in MINUSCA operations.
The ceremony took place at the RWABG VII base in Bria, Haute-Kotto Prefecture, to acknowledge their professionalism, discipline, and contribution to maintaining peace and security in the country.
The event was led by Major General Maychel Asmi, Deputy Force Commander of MINUSCA, who praised the Rwandan troops for their outstanding performance, highlighting their crucial role in securing the recent elections in CAR. He specifically commended RWABG VII for maintaining safety in Bria, Ouadda, and Sam-Ouandja, and RWAMED X for providing vital medical services to both UN personnel and local civilians.
In his speech, Lieutenant Colonel Willy Ntagara, RWABG VII Commander, expressed pride in receiving the medals, saying they inspire continued dedication to peacekeeping missions.
Colonel Dr. Simon R. Nyagasaza, Head of RWAMED X, highlighted the hospital’s progress since January 2025 and its essential role in supporting MINUSCA personnel and civilians through medical services.
The ceremony was attended by Rwanda’s Ambassador to CAR, H.E. Olivier Kayumba, senior MINUSCA officials, commanders of various forces in CAR, and other distinguished guests.
