Sheikh Dr. Muhammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa’s Visit Rwanda to highlights Qur’an memorization, peace and interfaith dialogue
The Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr. Muhammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, is in Rwanda on an official visit marked by high-level engagements, major Islamic events, and initiatives promoting peace, unity, and interfaith dialogue.
During his visit to Rwanda, Sheikh Dr. Muhammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa attended a ceremony honoring memorizers of the Holy Qur’an, where more than 70,000 individuals have so far memorized the sacred text. The ceremony was held at the Kigali Convention Centre and brought together a wide range of distinguished guests from Rwanda and abroad.
Among those in attendance were the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB), Dr. Usengumukiza Félicien, the Mufti of Burundi, Sheikh Salum Nayabagabo, as well as delegations from various countries, reflecting the international significance of the event.
In his remarks, the Mufti of Rwanda praised Sheikh Dr. Al-Issa for the strong cooperation and continued support provided by the Muslim World League to Islamic activities in Rwanda.
Speaking to journalists, he revealed that MWL has committed to supporting Rwanda by sponsoring international Qur’an recitation competitions to be hosted in Kigali. These competitions are expected to bring together participants from up to 40 countries and attract more than 10,000 people.
The Deputy CEO of RGB urged Muslims to go beyond memorizing the Qur’an and to fully embrace and practice its teachings in their daily lives. He commended the Muslim community in Rwanda for its positive contribution to national unity, emphasizing that faith-based organizations should be guided by values of peace and cohesion, noting that Islam fundamentally stands for peace.
The visit is set to continue with Sheikh Dr. Al-Issa paying tribute to the victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi at the Kigali Genocide Memorial. He is also expected to participate in dialogue sessions bringing together leaders of the Muslim community in Rwanda and representatives of other religions and Christian denominations.
In addition, an Iftar dinner is scheduled to take place at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village, commonly known as Camp Kigali. The event is expected to host more than 1,000 participants and will further highlight Rwanda’s commitment to religious harmony, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence.
