Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva on 19 February 2026 officiated the swearing-in ceremony of Col. Charles Sumanyi as Military Prosecutor General, in a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Kigali.
His appointment follows approval by Cabinet on 28 January 2026, entrusting him with leading the Military Prosecution Department, the institution responsible for handling offences related to the armed forces and strengthening justice within military structures.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister emphasised that the position requires high standards of integrity and professionalism. He urged Col. Sumanyi to exercise the authority entrusted to him responsibly, avoid using it for personal interests, and instead serve the nation while upholding the law.
He also stressed the importance of diligence, efficiency, and commitment to quality service delivery in daily duties, noting that timely and fair justice is a cornerstone for safeguarding security and public trust in military institutions.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Defence Juvenal Marizamunda; Minister of Justice and Attorney General Dr. Emmanuel Ugirashebuja and Prosecutor General Angelique Habyarimana.
Col. Sumanyi’s swearing-in is expected to further reinforce professionalism, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law within Rwanda’s military justice system, strengthening institutional accountability and confidence in the administration of justice.
