KENQRF 5 under MONUSCO visited Kartusi Secondary School near Mavivi, encouraging students to avoid armed groups, donating learning materials, and supporting orphaned girls affected by conflict.

On February 17, 2025, the 5th Kenya Quick Reaction Force (KENQRF 5), serving under the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), paid a special visit to Kartusi Secondary School near Mavivi town.

The outreach program focused on encouraging students to remain committed to their education and resist recruitment by illegal armed groups operating in the region. During the visit, members of the contingent delivered motivational speeches, offered prayers led by their chaplain, and provided essential teaching and learning materials. In addition, ten girls who lost their parents due to conflict received hygiene supplies and other girl-child necessities.

Speaking during the event, the KENQRF Commander reaffirmed the mission’s dedication to protecting both lives and the future of young people in the area. He emphasized that every child deserves access to quality education in a safe and secure environment.

“Our responsibility goes beyond providing security. We are equally committed to supporting young people so they can grow, succeed, and build lives free from violence,” the Commander stated.

Kartusi Secondary School, which has a student population of 160 learners, welcomed the support. The headteacher, Mr. Kakule Nzandu, expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting that the donated resources would ease challenges faced in delivering quality education.

He said the materials would significantly support classroom activities and help address daily needs, particularly for vulnerable students.

Area Chief Mr. Zack Manoku also commended the Quick Reaction Force for combining security efforts with community-focused initiatives. He noted that such engagements demonstrate genuine concern for the wellbeing and development of local residents. The visit highlights ongoing efforts by MONUSCO contingents to strengthen community resilience through both security operations and social support programs.
