President Kagame Meets Global Education Leaders ahead of global learning conference in Kigali

President Paul Kagame on Tuesday received a delegation of international education and development leaders in Kigali ahead of the Global Learning Conference 2026.


A major forum expected to convene policymakers, researchers, innovators, and private-sector actors to explore the future of education and sustainable development.

The visiting delegation included Prof. Subra Suresh, founder and president of the Global Learning Council; Michelle Gyles-McDonnough, Director of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research; Dr. Lee Howell, Executive Director of the Villars Institute; and Dr. Gururaj Deshpande, co-founder of the Deshpande Foundation.

Discussions focused on the conference’s objectives, particularly strengthening links between education, public health, environmental stewardship, and long-term development strategies.

Participants emphasized the role of learning systems in preparing societies to tackle global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and responsible technology use.

Side events planned alongside the conference include an Artificial Intelligence hackathon bringing together youth innovators and tech specialists to design practical solutions, as well as robotics competitions aimed at nurturing science and technology skills among students.

The gathering further highlights Rwanda’s growing reputation as a preferred destination for international conferences and collaborative dialogue on global development solutions.
