President Rajoelina Reassures Citizens in Madagascar That Everything Is Under Control
The President of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina, has reassured citizens that the country remains under government control and urged them to stay calm and trust national institutions, amid rumors of unrest within the military.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, President Rajoelina denied claims that he had fled the country, affirming that he remains in Madagascar and is closely monitoring the situation.
He said, “The rumors suggesting that I have sought asylum or been removed from the country are completely false. I am here with the people of Madagascar, and the country is in the hands of a transparent government.”
Following this, Prime Minister Gen. Rufin Zafisambo also posted a video on Facebook, calling on all parties to prioritize dialogue and unity, and reminding citizens that there is no reason to believe that the national army would fight among itself.
He stated, “I ask everyone to remain calm. There is no reason to spread fear. Our national forces are united in protecting the country’s security, not fighting each other.”
These remarks come after reports circulated on social media suggesting clashes between soldiers of CAPSAT (Corps des Personnels et des Services Administratifs et Techniques) and a group of gendarmes at a military camp.
The military leadership has not given detailed statements, but local media say security measures are being carefully implemented to prevent unrest in the capital, Antananarivo.
Madagascar has long faced political tensions, but President Rajoelina urged citizens to prioritize unity and peace, emphasizing that “where there is peace, there is development.”
