On 26 August 2025, The Nyamirambo Military Court announced decisions in a case involving civilians, journalists, APR FC fans, and soldiers accused of receiving and distributing unauthorized documents and collaborating in the misuse of state funds.

The alleged offenses are linked to APR FC’s trip to Egypt in September 2024, when the team played Pyramids FC in the CAF Champions League. During this trip, APR FC was accompanied by civilians, including journalists and fans, who reportedly received tickets paid for with Ministry of Defence funds, despite not being authorized to receive government resources.

The court ordered the conditional release of 23 civilians, including:

  • Journalists: Ndayishimiye Reagan (Rugaju), Ishimwe Ricard, and Mucyo Antha Biganiro
  • APR FC fan representative: Mugisha Frank (Jangwani)
  • RCS officers: CSP Hillary Sengabo and CSP Olive Mukantabana

Meanwhile, three soldiers remain under investigation: Major Vincent Murigande, Captain Peninah Umurungi, Captain Peninah Mutoni.

The court ordered the two Captains and Major Murigande to be detained for 30 days pending full trial, citing substantial grounds to suspect involvement in the misuse of state funds and forgery of documents.

All defendants denied the charges, with some asserting that they personally paid for their tickets or handed money to the accused officers as requested. The court emphasized that these decisions aim to ensure due process while allowing the ongoing military investigation to proceed.
