Rwandans in Moscow celebrate national heroes day marking Ubutwari 2026
On February 6th in Moscow, Rwandans and Friends of Rwanda gathered to celebrate the Annual National Heroes Day, which was officially observed nationwide on February 1, 2026, marking #Ubutwari2026.
In his remarks, Rwanda's Ambassador to Russia, Maj Gen Joseph Nzabamwita emphasized that heroism and unity remain central to Rwanda’s development. He called on all Rwandans, particularly the youth, to uphold patriotism, integrity, excellence in work, and collective responsibility in building a resilient and self-reliant nation.
Rwanda’s Defence Attaché to Russia, Col. A.B. Mpagaze, reflected on the evolution of heroism in Rwandafrom pre-colonial defence of sovereignty, through the liberation struggle that halted the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, to today’s commitment to unity, excellence, and sustainable development.
The celebration featured a moving recital of the poem “Their Shadows, Our Promise” by Cdt. Officer Napoleon Rwigema and a traditional dance performance by the ‘Imena mu Nganzo’ troupe, honoring Rwandan heroes throughout history through art and cultural expression.
