Abbas Fall, the Mayor of Dakar, on Saturday toured key urban development and environmental conservation sites in Kigali, in a visit aimed at exchanging experiences on sustainable city planning and inclusive development.

According to the City of Kigali, the visit focused on flagship projects that demonstrate Kigali’s approach to modern urban management, particularly in housing and environmental protection.

During the tour, Mayor Fall visited the Mpazi Rehousing Model in Gitega Sector, Nyarugenge District. He was briefed on the project’s role in providing safe and dignified housing, especially for residents relocated from high-risk zones considered dangerous to human life. City officials explained how the model integrates modern housing standards with social inclusion, ensuring affected residents are resettled in secure and well-planned neighborhoods.

The Dakar mayor also toured the Nyandungu Eco-Park, an ecological park covering more than 121 hectares. He was introduced to the park’s role in wetland restoration, environmental conservation, and its contribution to climate resilience, while also serving as a recreational and leisure space for the public.

The visit highlighted Kigali’s growing profile as a reference city for sustainable urban development in Africa and underscored the value of cooperation between African cities in addressing shared challenges related to housing, environmental protection, and urban growth.
